Principal’s Column School Funding September 23, 2024
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Back to School night last week. The main topic that I covered was our school's financial picture. I explained that we raised approximately $175,000 through three main fundraisers last year. To meet our operational needs for next year we need to increase that by $134,000 for a total of $309,000.
While this may seem daunting, I’m fully confident that this can be done and I’d like to start with a few simple things you can do as families to help us get there with our current fundraiser, the fun run. As I said last week, this is not my school but our school; we all need to band together to make this successful. I’d like to suggest the following roles for all of us in the community to take on to meet our fundraising needs.
School Employees: Identify parishioners and others in the St. Mary community. We create the address labels and provide these to teachers. The teachers divvy out these labels and have students write letters in class. The school will mail all of these out.
Parents: Schedule a time to sit down with your kids and identify family and friends to write letters to, send text messages, make phone calls, or share on social media accounts. A great time to do this is during dinner.
Students: Craft a message to each person they’ve identified whom they will ask for donations. Again, this can be done through written letters, text, phone calls, or social media. For example, it can be as simple as:
“Hi! I’m raising money for our fun run. This money helps everyone at our school, St. Mary, learn about God and I want to raise $500.
I’m looking for 5 people to donate $100
OR 10 people to donate $50
OR 20 people to donate $25.
I hope you can be one of these people and you can use the link below to donate. Thank you and God bless!
Below are some planning tips to help us reach our various goals.
Minimum Goal: $50,000 Each student needs to raise $250 Consider identifying 5 people and asking them to donate $50 OR 10 people to donate $25 each OR 20 people to donate $12 each.
Getting There Goal: $75,000 Each student needs to raise $375 Consider identifying 5 people and asking them to donate $75 OR 10 people to donate $38 each OR 20 people to donate $20 each.
Ultimate Goal: $100,000 Each student needs to raise $500 Consider identifying 5 people and asking them to donate $100 OR 10 people to donate $50 each OR 20 people to donate $25 each.
Please let me know if you have any questions or ideas to make this a successful fundraiser. Thank you to all of you for supporting our community!
